A foundation of faith
The Bishop A. L. Hardy Academy of Theology remembers Bishop Hardy as its founder and spiritual leader—a teacher and mentor whose influence reached across the Pacific Northwest.
Alongside his wife, Dr. Gladys Hardy, he founded and pastored Rose of Sharon Pentecostal Temple and the Bishop A. L. Hardy Academy of Theology for many years. Their shared ministry created space for worship, theological learning, musical expression, leadership development, and Christian fellowship.
A living legacy
Bishop Hardy and Dr. Gladys Hardy established and pastored the church, nurturing a congregation centered on worship, prayer, teaching, and spiritual growth.
They also founded the theological school that now carries Bishop Hardy’s name, extending their commitment to teaching and preparing men and women for mature Christian service.
The Academy’s historical account remembers Bishop Hardy as a leader who taught by example and mentored as many people as he could throughout the Pacific Northwest.
His ministry reached beyond the pulpit. In 2001, Bishop Hardy represented African American religious leaders in raising civil-rights concerns with Washington’s advisory body to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.
A founding partnership
The Academy’s history honors a partnership that spanned 65 years. Dr. Gladys Hardy served beside her husband as an educator, mentor, minister of music, trained singer, and gospel recording artist. Together, their gifts strengthened both the church and the school, joining preaching and teaching with music, formation, and care.
Their work was never meant to end with one generation. It lives on whenever believers are taught, gifts are developed, leaders are mentored, and the Gospel is carried forward with faithfulness.
