Believing
Trusting Jesus Christ and responding to His Word.
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Romans 10:17 · KJV
Faith begins with Christ
Biblical faith is more than optimism or agreement with religious ideas. It is trust in Jesus Christ—His person, His saving work, and His Word. In Romans 10, Paul connects faith with hearing the message of Christ. We do not earn salvation through effort or reputation; we receive God’s grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8–10).
Trust takes the shape of obedience
Jesus describes the wise hearer as one who hears His sayings and does them (Matthew 7:24–27). Obedience does not purchase grace; it expresses trust in the One who gives it. Believing means bringing our choices, fears, and loyalties under the authority of Christ, turning from sin, and learning to follow Him.
Practice the teaching
Read Romans 10:9–17 and Matthew 7:24–27. Identify one instruction of Jesus you need to obey this week. Pray honestly about what makes that step difficult, then act on what you understand. Ask: Where am I agreeing with God’s Word without yet trusting Him enough to respond?
