Belonging
Sharing life in the household of God.
“Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.”
1 Corinthians 12:27 · KJV
Christ brings us into a people
In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul pictures the church as one body with many members. Each member matters, and no member can claim to have no need of the others. Belonging begins with our relationship to Christ and becomes visible in a shared life of worship, learning, care, and service. The church is a household in which disciples learn to love one another (Ephesians 2:19).
Fellowship is shared responsibility
The first disciples continued in the apostles’ doctrine, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayers (Acts 2:42). Their life together involved more than attending a meeting. It included learning truth, sharing resources, and carrying burdens. Healthy belonging joins accountability with compassion; it values people without demanding that they hide their questions or struggles.
Practice the teaching
Read Acts 2:42–47 and 1 Corinthians 12:12–27. Introduce yourself to someone at a gathering, learn their name, and ask how you can encourage them. Consider the Member’s Guide and speak with a church leader about membership. Ask: How can I both receive care and contribute to the well-being of this church family?
